Altamira Hotel is placed right in the medireview village center of Santillana del Mar. It is ubicated in Canton street that takes part of the village main artery which leads to the Colegiata.

It is about an old Cantabrian big house which belonged to the Valdivieso and dates from 16th century.

Santillana del Mar is a medireview village, jewel of the romanesque which history dates back to a chapel builded in the 8th century,around this chapel the village was grouped in the course of the centuries. From the economic splendorous times of this village, 17th and 18th centuries remain its big houses, its palaces most of them provided with shileds, arcades, porches, balconies, streets and gardens in tune with the popular, religious of nobility and mountain architecture of that period. The Santillana oldest monuments are, the Merino and Don Borja towers, both of them date from 14th century. From its religious architecture, the Colegiata is the most relevant example and main exponent of the Romanesque style in Cantabria.

All this, makes that this urban complex is recognized as one of more villages of Spain. 2 Kms. away from the city we find the Altamira Coves declared humanity heritage by UNESCO, these caves are considerated one of the most recognized prehistoric panting caves of Europe and the World, accidentally discovered by a hunter in 1869. They are called the Sixtine Chapel of the cave art. Most of these paintings were carried out in the Magdaleniense period ( between 14.000 and 9500 b.C.) The vault is covered with figures of bisons, horses, a wild boar and a 2.20 m. high deer.

Santillana del Mar is located 30 Km. in the west of Santander and 8 km.from Torrelavega. In the junction of C-6316 and S-480 roads, 5 km. from the exit 234 of the Cantabrian highway. 32 Km. away of Santillana is placed the International Airport of Santander and 120 Km. far is the International Airport of Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum.The connection with United Kingdom is made through the ferry which links Santander with Plymouth ( England).
